Home-collection drawers, not yet in wide circulation

The URDR324 is a pair of refrigerated drawers at 24 in wide, part of the Home collection, and it is coming soon. That means few installed examples and limited field history, so we are careful not to assume details that nobody has confirmed. What we can say about drawer refrigeration applies to any drawer unit and should be described accurately when you call.

How drawers lose cold

A refrigerated drawer is opened from above, not from the front, so cold air spills out each time and the box must refill. The unit therefore leans heavily on its seal. If the drawer front does not meet the gasket along the full edge, the cabinet pulls in warm air continuously and frost builds up where the damp air meets the cold.

Ask yourself a few questions. Does the drawer glide the same way every time? Is there a spot where it catches? Does it stay slightly proud of the cabinet face?

What to record

  • Which drawer, upper or lower, shows the issue.
  • What is stored in it and whether anything touches the front lip or the sides.
  • Whether frost appears at the front edge, along one side or at the back.
  • Any alarm that implies a drawer left open, like E10 (top drawer open longer than 20 minutes) on controls that use it.

Installation geometry

A drawer unit needs room in front for both drawers to open fully, and a level cabinet opening underneath. In a remodel where the cabinet floor is slightly out of level, drawers can drift in a direction that leaves a corner open. We look at the opening as carefully as we look at the unit. Please do not shim, loosen or reposition the unit yourself.

Loading drawers sensibly

Drawers invite stacking, and stacking is the enemy of airflow. Tall packages at the back can press on the cooling surface and freeze, while a heap of loose items at the front prevents the drawer from closing. Use shallow containers, leave a little air around them, and avoid placing anything on the gasket line.

If you keep drinks in one drawer and food in the other, tell us. Different contents change how often each drawer is opened and how much warm product enters, and that can explain why one drawer behaves differently from its neighbor without any fault in the unit.

Next steps

Close each drawer fully, take out any item that rests against the sides, and verify the power supply. If the symptom persists, we diagnose on site, provide a written estimate and wait for your approval.
