Clear ice is a longer chain than crescent ice

The ACP115 makes clear ice at 15 in wide, is part of the ADA group and is meant for indoor installs. Where a crescent maker has a short sequence, a clear-ice machine runs a longer one: water comes in, circulates while it freezes, harvests, and what is left drains away. The more stages there are, the more important it is to know where a cycle stopped, not just that it stopped.

Ice that never arrives because the water cannot leave is a separate repair from ice that never freezes, yet the front of the machine looks the same in both cases.

Five stages, five questions

  1. Water supply: does water enter at all?
  2. Circulation and freezing: does it move over the freezing surface and set?
  3. Harvest: does the finished ice release?
  4. Drain: does leftover water leave, by gravity or by a pump?
  5. Sensors, controls and refrigeration: does everything above get a correct signal?

Pump-equipped and gravity-drain versions of U-Line machines call for different installation checks, and we confirm which arrangement yours uses before assuming anything about the drain.

Signs worth reporting

  • The bin has nothing in it after a long wait.
  • A batch looks thin, partial or cloudy.
  • Water stands in the bin or around the drain area.
  • A cleaning alert or other message appears.
  • Water shows up at a particular moment in the cycle.

What owners can do

Start with the shutoff valve you can see, which should be open, and the supply hose outside the cabinet, which should run without a kink. Glance into the bin, and at any drain opening in view, for pooled water, but leave the pump and drain parts assembled. If you can, write down which stage the machine reached: fill, circulate, freeze, harvest or drain. Save any cleaning alert or message before a reset, and photograph a leak together with the point in the cycle when it showed.

Do not change anything about the pump or drain setup on the assumption that all U-Line machines match.

Cleaning alerts and what they tell us

Clear ice machines can show cleaning alerts or other messages, and these are most useful when recorded exactly as shown. A message does not prove that a component has failed. It is a clue to read next to the model and the stage where the cycle stopped, which is why the same wording on a different U-Line generation may not mean the same thing.

Why we ask so many questions

Few appliances reward detail as much as this one. A note saying “water pooled right after the ice dropped” can point straight at the drain path, while “nothing ever froze” sends us toward the freezing side. Without it, parts get ordered on guesses.
