Two temperature zones change the question

The URWD424 is a 24-inch dual-zone wine refrigerator in the Seamless collection, listed for indoor and outdoor use. People buy a dual-zone cabinet to keep reds and whites at their own temperatures, so the first thing we ask when it misbehaves is: which side?

One zone off and the other fine points toward something specific to that side, such as its sensor reading or the way air is shared between compartments. Both zones off together points toward door sealing, ventilation or the cooling system as a whole.

Complaints specific to dual-zone cabinets

  • the upper and lower set points no longer sit apart the way they did;
  • one zone holds temperature while the other drifts;
  • the cold zone is too cold after you raise the warm zone;
  • a thermistor message names the left or right side;
  • recovery after a door opening is slow in only one compartment.

Reading side-specific codes

The control reports problems per zone. Examples include L Zone T Open and R Zone T Open for an open sensor circuit, and L Temp Hi 6H+ or R Temp Lo 6H+ for a zone more than 10 degrees F off its set point for six hours. Which letter appears tells us where to start; it does not, by itself, name a part.

Before you call

  1. Record the set point for each zone before changing either.
  2. Note which compartment is off and by roughly how much.
  3. Check that neither door section is held open by a bottle or rack.
  4. Keep the grille at the bottom clear.
  5. Photograph a message exactly as shown before any reset.

Please do not move racks that are fixed, open covers or test any wiring.

Why one zone can fool you

The two compartments of a dual-zone refrigerator are not sealed off from the surroundings in the same way. Raising the warm zone can slightly warm its neighbor, and a faulty reading on one side can push the control to overcool the other. When we see zones working against each other, we look at what each sensor reports before concluding anything about the cooling hardware.

How the visit unfolds

We compare each zone against its own set point, check the door seal on both compartments, watch air movement, evaluate the zone sensors and control logic, and finally the refrigeration performance. The estimate is written, and repairs wait for your go-ahead. The single-zone URWC424 has the same width but a simpler control picture; the URWD324 is its Home-collection counterpart and must not be mixed up with it when ordering parts.
