A refrigerator and an ice maker in one opening

The HRI124 combines a refrigerator and an ice maker in a 24 in wide unit from the 1 Class group, designed for indoor use. That makes it unusual, because it carries two working systems that can fail together or on their own. The question we ask first is simple: what stopped first, the cooling or the ice?

Order of events is the best clue

If the cabinet warmed up and the ice stopped afterward, the original fault is probably in the cooling side, and the ice maker is a casualty. If ice production stopped while the refrigerator held its temperature, the water or ice-making side deserves attention. If both went at once, a shared cause such as power or a control event moves up the list. Write down which of these you observed, even if you are not sure.

Complaints we hear

  • The refrigerator cools but no ice appears.
  • The cabinet is warm and ice production has stopped too.
  • Ice cubes come out small or inconsistent.
  • Water or frost appears near the ice-making section.
  • The cabinet is too cold while the ice side looks normal.
  • The controls behave differently after a power event.

Two sets of checks

For the cabinet side, close the door fully, keep the front ventilation openings clear and read the temperature before adjusting anything. For the ice side, look at whether the visible water supply to the unit is available. A closed valve or a kinked supply line outside the cabinet is a common reason for small or missing ice, and checking it costs nothing.

  1. Confirm the door shuts completely.
  2. Keep the ventilation openings at the front free of obstruction.
  3. Confirm the visible water supply valve is open.
  4. Compare cabinet temperature and ice behavior before changing any setting.
  5. Save any code or alarm before a reset.

Please do not remove internal ice-making parts or bend water lines to see inside. That can turn a simple fault into a leak.

Water in a refrigerator is a different matter

Moisture or frost near the ice section tells us something about where water is going. Photograph it, note whether it appears right after an ice cycle, and keep towels and stored food clear of the area. If water reaches anything electrical, stop using the appliance.
