Gravity drain is the defining detail

The OCL115 sits in the Outdoor collection as a 15 in clear ice machine, and the current listing describes it as the version with no drain pump. That means melted water and cycle water leave the machine by gravity, through a drain line that has to fall away from the unit all the way to its outlet. The pump-equipped sister, the OCP115, handles drainage differently, so advice written for it should not be applied here without checking the data tag.

Clear ice stops at a specific stage

Clear ice takes patience. The machine fills, circulates water over a freezing surface, builds a sheet or cubes, harvests and then drains. When a bin stays empty, one of those stages is failing. A machine that cannot drain properly may stall even though it freezes perfectly well, which is a different repair from one that never freezes at all.

  • The cycle runs but ice never builds up in the bin.
  • Freezing happens but the harvest does not complete.
  • Water goes in yet the ice-making sequence ends early.
  • Water sits in the reservoir or the drain path.
  • Cubes turn cloudy, thin or irregular.
  • Water leaks at some point in the cycle.
  • Daily output falls off.

What to watch for on the drain side

Because this unit has no pump to push water uphill, a sagging drain hose, a kink behind the cabinet or a connection that was altered during a remodel can leave water standing. If you can see the drain line without moving the unit, look for dips, flattened sections or a sudden rise. A slow drain often shows first as water pooling in the bin floor or a damp smell.

Outdoor installation adds a few extras. A hose run across a patio can be stepped on or sat on by a cooler. In winter rain or after pressure washing, water can find its way where you would not expect. Debris in a floor drain may also turn a working installation into a backup.

Owner checks

  1. Photograph any leak and note which stage of the cycle it appeared in.
  2. Observe how far through the cycle the machine gets before it quits.
  3. Glance at the bin floor and any drain run you can see for pooled water. Leave the drain assembly in place.
  4. Make sure the water valve you can reach is fully open and the supply tubing has no sharp bend.
  5. Write down any cleaning reminder or message before a reset.

Please do not assume this model has a pump, and do not add one or alter the drain arrangement on your own.
